Netflix romance divides viewers is Purple Hearts worth it

Purple Hearts is currently occupied #1 in the Netflix Top Ten. Anyone who is now wondering whether the 122 minutes of love drama in the stream is worth it will not find a simple answer. While many viewers celebrate the film, it largely failed the critics.

“Beautiful” or “unimaginative”: Netflix hit Purple Hearts divided the audience

The film by director Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum (Dead to Me) scored an impressive 6.8 points on Moviepilot. The story of the sham marriage of a young musician (Sofia Carson) and a Marine prospect (Nicholas Galitzine) does not reinvent the wheel for many, but still develops a lot of emotional clout.

Many of the reviews on IMDb are similar, with Purple Hearts scoring 7.2 out of 10. One community member describes the film as predictable but beautiful and particularly highlights Carson’s “great“Acting talent emerges.

Things are different on Rotten Tomatoes. While the audience rating there also reached the impressive level of 83%, the criticism rating is significantly lower at a pitiful 27%. “Loaded with Sofia Carson’s songs unimaginative and without real chemistry“, writes AV Club. The New York Times complains that “Star vehicle for Carson […] wallow[e] themselves in contrived plots“.

So if you expect innovative storytelling and surprising developments, you should probably stay away from Purple Hearts. If you just want to be entertained emotionally or if you are a big fan of Sofia Carson (Descendants), can start streaming without hesitation.
