When it came out, the video game Cyberpunk 2077 starring Keanu Reeves was quite a disaster full of bugs and other problems. Now there is an anime series on Netflix based on this game, among other things. What is the Netflix sci-fi series about and how does it relate to the Keanu Reeves game?
In the futuristic megacity Night City, people are most interested in technology. Through cybernetic modifications, they improve their bodies and thus their quality of life. Night City is a lawless city, which is controlled by powerful corporations. Here, a teenager David Martinez has to fight for survival every day.
After the death of his mother, David is on his own and heavily in debt. In order not to lose everything in his life, the young man decides one day to commit himself illegal military implant to be inserted into the back, which gives it strength. Drifting into crime, he decides to become an edge runner and take on the role of a lawless mercenary, a cyberpunk.
So Cyberpunk: Edgerunners takes place in the same world as the game and role-playing game Cyberpunk, which has existed since 1988: but compared to 2077, it has a new main character and otherwise tells a largely independent story.
