The platform uses Sennheiser AMBEO technology to deliver an immersive audio experience compatible with all compatible devices in stereo.
Now you can watch Netflix with immersive sound. The streaming platform, which has partnered with sound specialist Sennheiser, now supports the AMBEO technology developed by the manufacturer to offer spatial sound on several of its series for all users. The main advantage of this rendering tool is that it works on any audio system as long as it can broadcast sound in stereo.
Concretely, this means that with the use of AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio, you can enjoy an immersive audio experience with the equipment you own. You can enjoy it on your current speakers, your television, your smartphone, your tablet, headphones, etc. without the need to install any additional equipment. You don’t need to own a surround speaker either.
Space sound already available in Season 4 of Stranger Things
Netflix says it is rolling out spatial sound to its catalog now. It is already available in several series broadcast on the platform, including season 4 of Stranger Things. To find the complete list of programs compatible with spatial audio, a simple “spatial audio” query launched in the Netflix search engine should in principle suffice.
Besides Stranger Things, this immersive sound technology is only available on programs produced by Netflix. Among the series concerned, we note in particular Red Notice, The Witcher, Resident Evil, Archive81 or Locke & Key. Sennheiser says it worked with Netflix and other industry partners to refine its system.
“AMBEO 2-Channel Spatial Audio offers a two-channel rendering of an immersive mix with a superior audio experience as a replacement for stereo”, explains the audio specialist in its press release.
Spatial sound is included with all plans offered by the platform. On its pages of support, Netflix says Spatial Audio is automatically enabled when watching a compatible TV show or movie in stereo. The service also recommends watching content in 5.1 surround sound or in Dolby Atmos if you have surround speakers.
