Netflix is trying hard to make its live-action adaptation, One Piece, as fan-friendly as possible. Manga creator Eiichiro Oda is heavily involved, and the showrunners are passionate franchise fans themselves. A change to the anime template One Piece is already clear. Luffy (Inaki Godoy) wears shoes instead of sandals. Fans are amazed, but the change actually has a reason.

We all did as many stunts ourselves as we were allowed to do. Unfortunately, sandals are not the safest footwear for stunts, and we didn’t want to deprive you of the great work of Iñaki Godoy.

Luffy’s sandals are already one of his trademarks in the manga, but fans will be familiar with them, especially from the anime. Some may lament the lack of fidelity to the template. But many will be happy with how much physical effort the cast apparently performs its roles.
When is the One Piece series coming to Netflix?
Thanks to the first image of Netflix’s One Piece series, we know that she during the year 2023 should appear. A more precise release date is also difficult to estimate.
