Netflix millionaire? The Gray Man loses to low budget film

Netflix millionaire The Gray Man loses to low budget film

In the history of Netflix, expectations and reality have probably never been so far apart as with The Gray Man. The agent blockbuster engulfed A-list stars Ana de Armas, Chris Evans and Ryan Gosling $200 million, a large part of which flowed into the fees. Nevertheless, the streaming service wanted to present a film with the action hit that leaves after-effects. There is no other way to explain the sequel and spin-off plans, which now seem even more grotesque.

Humiliation: The Gray Man loses top spot after just 8 days

The Gray Man – Trailer (German) HD

If we Netflix production hits want to measure, we don’t have too many parameters at our disposal. Rather sporadically, the service spits out “Viewing Hours”, i.e. the amount of time that users have spent with a series or film. Can be viewed at all times and is therefore more comparable the Netflix top 10, which is computed both globally and locally. The most popular content is listed here.

A look at the global and local charts shows: The The Gray Man hype, if it ever existed, is over. Just 8 days after the start, the allegedly most expensive Netflix blockbuster has lost its top position and is now in second place in Germany and the USA, among others. The blockbuster from Avengers directors Anthony and Joe Russo could become a grave of millions. It is becoming increasingly unlikely that The Gray Man will lure new customers to the service with this balance sheet.

Even Dwayne Johnson’s Red Notice – also not what you would call a Zeitgeist phenomenon – stayed at the top for 12 days, according to SlashFilm.

Other movies that stayed at #1 longer than The Gray Man:

Netflix had cleared the way for its premium content The Gray Man. Hardly any major films and series started on the release weekend and the week after. The Gray Man was more or less unrivaled. But that didn’t help either. Because the place in the sun grabbed an unlikely competitor.

This low budget film knocks The Gray Man off the top

Purple Hearts – Trailer (English) HD

If someone is on the ground, don’t step on them. But for the most expensive Netflix film of all time to be eclipsed by the little romance Purple Hearts is just too weird. The “low-budget film” (Forbes) beat Ryan Gosling and Co. and greets from the Netflix throne in Germany as well. In this article we will introduce Purple Hearts in more detail.

None of this speaks for a golden The Gray Man future. As a consolation: There are also films that save the honor of Ryan Gosling and Co. The Midnight Sky with George Clooney stayed at number 1 for a measly 5 days.

The streaming year was very varied in the film sector. A red panda has thrown Toronto into chaos while a princess struggled from the top floor of a tower to the ground floor. We were also able to experience the first moon landing through children’s eyes and received an amusing Jackass encore.
