Netflix’ mega sci-fi blockbuster grabs Dune author – now only Dave Bautista is missing, who has been dreaming of the leading role for years

Netflix mega sci fi blockbuster grabs Dune author now only

Gears of War is one of the most popular video game series. Since the launch in 2006, six games have appeared, as well as various offshoots in other media. What is missing, however, is a big Gears of War movie. Hollywood has been trying to bring the story to the screen for years. Now comes a film adaptation from Netflix.

Last November, the streaming service secured the rights to the brand. It is now clear who will write the Gears of War film. As Variety has learned, Netflix has teamed up with Jon Spaihts real sci-fi experts to back up. Spaihts was involved in Dune, Passengers, Doctor Strange and Prometheus, among others.

New franchise planned: Sci-Fi expert Jon Spaihts is writing the Gears of War film adaptation on Netflix

Gears of War takes place in the far distant future on the planet Sera, which is on the brink of social collapse. Lizard-like monsters lurk deep underground, becoming dangerous to the residents. Sergeant Marcus Fenix is to contain the threat with the Delta Squad.

It is unclear who plays the main role. If it were up to Dave Bautista, he would already be Marcus Fenix standing in front of the camera in costume. The Guardians of the Galaxy star has been raving about the role for years. Now he’s waiting for the call from Netflix. He proved on Instagram that he would cut a fine figure as Marcus Fenix.

Netflix has big plans for Gears of War. As with many other brands that the streaming service secures, there should not only be a film adaptation, but a whole one Cinematic Universe. In addition to the real film, a series is being planned that will expand the Gears of War universe on Netflix in animated form.

When does Gears of War start on Netflix?

That could take some time. So far, only Spaihts has signed on as a screenwriter, which means the project is at a very early stage.
