Netflix is rolling out a new feature so users can disconnect unwanted devices from their account in seconds. A gentle way to encourage “squatters” to subscribe to their own subscription…
The hunt for account sharing – which will begin in January 2023 – continues on Netflix! The streaming giant is determined to curb this practice, which is causing it to lose a significant number of profits. He gradually puts in place different means to put an end to it, in a more or less subtle way. Thus, it has already deployed the Profile Transfer option to encourage squatters to create their own account without losing their viewing history. Now the platform allows users to disconnect the devices of their choice, as it announced on his blog. A much simpler option, since until now they could only disconnect all accounts at once and then reconnect manually. They will now be able to spot who is logging in without permission – the interface shows all devices that have logged into the account with plenty of information to identify them correctly – and eject it in seconds. The feature is available to everyone right now on the Android, iOS, and Web versions of Netflix.
“This option was requested by subscribers to manage the security of their account”, explains the company. But this gift is not made without ulterior motive since it allows him to move forward in his fight against account sharing, which represents a real shortfall. In this way, he hopes that people kicked out of the account will decide to pay for their own subscription. It’s all the better because it has just launched the Netflix Essential advertising formula, which only allows the use of one screen at a time. This is likely to create some tension…
How do I disconnect a device from its Netflix account?
The operation to disconnect a device from your Netflix account is done in just a few clicks. Here’s how to do it on the website, with a browser: the process is the same on the mobile app.
► With your usual web browser, go to the Netflix site, log in to your Netflix account and once on the home page, click on your profile icontop right.
► A drop-down menu appears. Click on Account.
► A new page opens. Go to section Security and privacy and click on Manage access and devicesin blue.
► On the new page is displayed a list of the different devices that have recently connected to your account (TV, smartphone, PC, tablet), as well as the profile used, the last date of use, the location and the address IP. In front of the device to be disconnected, simply click on Sign out.
► A green banner tells you that the operation was successful.
To further strengthen the security of your account, it is better to change your password after cleaning the authorized devices to prevent the person from reconnecting afterwards without your consent.
