During this year’s Jump Festa, one of the biggest manga events of the year, Netflix announced that One Piece is getting an anime remake. This means that the anime epic, which includes over 1000 episodes, will be animated again from the very beginning – perfect for anyone who wants to get started.
What is One Piece?
One Piece has enjoyed worldwide popularity for years. However, due to its large scope, many people shy away from the series. With the live-action adaptation (see trailer) and the new anime, Netflix now offers two new good entry points for anyone who is curious.

What exactly has Netflix announced? During Jump Festa 2023, Netflix announced a new anime for One Piece: With The One Piece, Eiichiro Oda’s manga template will be completely re-animated, starting with the chapters of the East Blue Ark.
The streaming service even published a video about it on YouTube:
The One Piece is currently still in the production phase. The project is being supervised by representatives of the publishing manga publisher Shueisha, the Japanese TV network Fuji Television Network and the anime studio Toei Animation, who are currently producing the first anime, which currently has over 1,000 episodes.
How do you know Wit Studio? Wit Studio is set to animate The One Piece. The anime company became known for the first three seasons of the epic Attack on Titan, which was ultimately not completed by Studio Mappa until 2023.
They later produced the post-apocalyptic vampire anime Seraph of the End, the supernatural romance The Magician’s Bride and, since 2019, Vinland Saga, which we recommend in our top 5 anime with a really strong story.
Wit Studio is known for its high-quality productions that stand the test of time over the years.
When can you see The One Piece and where? According to the announcement, The One Piece will be shown worldwide exclusively on Netflix. This makes sense since Netflix is the driving force behind the production. But since the Fuji Television Network is also involved, a free TV broadcast could at least be under discussion on Japanese television.
Unfortunately, it is not yet known when the first episodes will flicker across your screens. There are usually years between the first announcement and the final release of anime series: To this day, the production of animated series is still complex and time-consuming, even with the most modern technology.
It is also not yet known what rhythm and format the adaptation will appear in. The current anime appears weekly, which would be unusual for the streaming provider. A block release of individual seasons that adapt entire Arks would also be possible. It is also not yet clear whether it will be a classic series or even a film series.
Are you looking forward to the anime remake? Or are you sticking with Toei Animation’s production for now? Or are you climbing on board for the first time with the new series? We would be happy to receive your comments!
