For many fans, Avatar – The Last Airbender is one of the best animated series of all time. Netflix is re-releasing the adventures of Aang, Sokka and Katara as a live-action series next year, for which the streamer has spared no expense or effort.
After Netflix has already introduced the cast of the fantasy series in the first images, the streamer has now revealed it as part of Geekd Week the first teaser trailer for Avatar: The Lord of the Elements including the start date. It could be one of the biggest fantasy hits of 2024 – or the biggest fantasy disaster since M. Night Shyamalan’s first live-action film.

The fantasy world of Avatar is divided into four nations, in which special people, so-called tamers, each have one of the four elements – Water, Earth, Fire and Air – can control.
Katara (Kiawentiio) and her brother Sokka (Ian Ousley) are members of the Water Tribe. When they rescue the boy Aang (Gordon Cormier) from an iceberg, they are surprised to realize that he is the long-lost Avatar.

But before Aang can follow his destiny and protect the world from the imperialist Fire Nation, the young air nomad must first travel the world with his new friends and learn to master the remaining three elements.
According to reports, the first season’s budget is said to be $120 million – or $15 million per episode. For comparison: The production costs of the Netflix adaptation One Piece are said to have been around $17 million per episode.
When does Avatar: The Last Airbender start on Netflix?
The Avatar series premieres on February 22, 2024 on Netflix. The first season consists of eight one-hour episodes, all of which will be available at launch.
