On Netflix: Lady Chatterley frees herself from a sad marriage with a sex adventure
The Netlix adaptation follows Lady Chatterley (Emma Corrin) who is trapped in a loveless marriage to her wealthy husband, Clifford (Matthew Duckett), who is paraplegic from a war injury. She begins an affair with gamekeeper Oliver Mellors (Jack O’Connell), which both shattered their sexual and social limitations. However, those around her are anything but enthusiastic about the adventure.
Lawrence’s original book also met with fierce resistance in the late 1920s. The work contained various explicit descriptions of sexuality, questioned the status quo of British society and threatened patriarchal power structures with a theme of female emancipation.
