In 2018, a rather inconspicuous series started on Netflix: It was about an elite Spanish school into which three students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds were admitted. The series is called Elite and it became a mega success on Netflix, producing seasons in record time.
The new episodes from season 7 will start on Netflix next Friday and the streaming service only announced the extension for season 8 in July. Now Netflix announces: After season 8 it’s over.
No Netflix series received more seasons than Elite
Netflix made the renewal and end of Elite at X official: “Élite has been renewed for an eighth and final season – and season 7 premieres this Friday!“

With Season 8, Elite is on par with two other Netflix originals: The Ranch and Big Mouth. The latter was also renewed for an 8th and final season in April of this year. Elite ran for so long that the original cast has since been pushed out. Maybe that’s why the joy about the ending predominates in the reactions.

Of course, some fans are mourning the end of their series – Elite deserved that after this run. Nevertheless, the comments show that the Spanish original was seen by many fans as an example of the streaming service’s cancellation strategy: many in-house productions have to make do with one season, while Elite has a regular one Renewal subscription seemed to possess it – another reason why there is more ridicule in the comments than sadness or anger. You rarely see something like that with deposition.
When is Elite Season 7 and Season 8 coming?
Elite Season 7 premieres next Friday (October 20) on Netflix. The 8th season does not yet have an official date.
