It is now possible to subscribe to the subscription Essential with advertising. For €5.99/month, you can watch Netflix films and series (but not all of them are accessible for rights reasons) by agreeing to be interrupted by sequences of advertisements of 4 to 5 minutes per hour, at launch and during programs.
Are you interested in this new subscription? You can now change your subscription simply. Just use a computer and click on the top right on the “Account” tab, and go to the “change your plan“. The offer with advertising is then offered. If you do not wish to subscribe to Netflix’s offer with advertisements, you have nothing to do, your subscription remains active. Netflix is one of the platforms of streaming the most popular in the audiovisual landscape. It now has 223 million paying subscribers after having benefited from an increase of 2.4 million new consumers in the third quarter (figures communicated on Tuesday, October 18, 2022). Netflix stands out from other platforms for many programs that have become extremely popular, such as Stranger ThingsSquid Game or The Bridgerton Chronicle.
Want to subscribe to Netflix? You can opt for a cheaper subscription with ads, or not. If you prefer to avoid being interrupted in your viewing, you can opt for one of the streaming platform’s three ad-free subscriptions. Each has its advantages (price, screen quality, simultaneous screens) and its disadvantages. Below, we detail which subscription may correspond more to your profile, as well as all the practical information (price, account sharing, etc.) to know about the platform.
If a monthly subscription to Netflix is taken out, it can even be canceled at any time and at no additional cost. The streaming platform offers three different subscriptions when you want to register on the site. It is not possible to benefit from the content of the platform for free. But between the three subscription options, which one to choose? Here are the different options available to you:
- If your budget is tight and you don’t mind adsit seems preferable to opt for the subscription Essential with advertisements, at 5.99 euros per month from November 3, 2022. With a few exceptions, this subscription offers the entire Netflix catalog. Viewing is however punctuated by 4 to 5 minutes of advertisements on average per hour. However, it is not possible to have the HD or to download the programs offline.
- If your budget is tight but you don’t want ads, the subscription Essential, at €8.99/month, is the cheapest, without ads, offered by the streaming platform. However, this offer only offers a simultaneous screen and only a standard image quality: it should not be too much to use this account at the same time.
- If you are two to take advantage of the account netflix in your household, it may be necessary to opt for the subscription Standard. For €13.49/month, this offer allows you to watch two different content on two simultaneous screens. Ideal for roommates, couples or small families. With this offer, you also benefit from an HD image.
- Premium Membership is ideal if you are looking to accumulate the maximum benefit and you are not too fussy about the price of your subscription, or if you are a very large family or a large roommate where each member watches Netflix regularly. For €17.99/month, you have access to all Netflix titles with optimal image quality and on many simultaneous screens. Regardless of the monthly package chosen, films and series can be viewed unlimited, the subscription can be canceled at any time, and it is possible to connect to the streaming platform on your computer, TV, smart phone or his tablet. Note that in France, the last price increase dates from August 19, 2021, before it was made official by the platform in October. This is an announcement that will not reassure the many Netflix subscribers. The streaming platform announced on March 16, 2022 that it was going to embark on a new experiment: charging more subscribers who share their accounts with people who do not live in their household. For the time being, France is not affected by this measure. This experiment will begin in the coming weeks, in Chile, Costa Rica and Peru. In these countries, it will be possible to add “sub-accounts” for $2 or $3. Netflix’s director of product innovation, Chengyi Long, explained in a blog post that “we want to ensure that each new option is flexible and useful for our subscribers, whose subscription helps finance films and series from quality.”
For several years, Netflix offered in France to benefit from a month of free trial to become familiar with the platform and validate its subscription. Since February 2020, it is no longer possible to benefit from 30 days of free trials: the subscription is paid for from the first month of use. However, it is always possible to cancel your subscription at any time. To date, there is no possibility to test Netflix for free legally.
After the price increase, Netflix offers a new subscription: the Essential with advertisements. From November 3, 2022 from 5 p.m., it is possible to subscribe to this new offer in France. For €5.99/month (the cheapest price), it is possible to have access to the streaming platform by viewing 4 to 5 minutes of advertisements per hour. It can start before or during viewing. However, it is not possible to have HD, ultra-HD or many simultaneous screens. Note also that initially, some programs will not be accessible with this subscription for a question of rights.
This is the new extension that everyone is tearing up at the moment on the internet: Netflix Party, a Google Chrome extension that allows its users to share a viewing session on Netflix with their friends and family. The idea is simple: everyone watches the same episode of the same series remotely respecting a strict synchronization and everyone can even participate in a furious discussion via an instant chat. In this period of confinement that the French are experiencing, Netflix subscribers have found a way to alleviate the isolation a little by heading to this extension which literally allows “Netflix and chill” but from a distance.
Just head to the Netflix Party website and click on “Install Netflix Party”. You will then be redirected to the Google Chrome Web Store, then click on the “Add to Chrome” button. A window appears in the browser asking you to confirm the addition to Google Chrome, click on “Add to Chrome”. As a reminder, the extension is only available for users of the Google Chrome browser. It is therefore not possible to enjoy it with Safari, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer.
Once the Netflix Party extension is installed, all you have to do is go to the Netflix site, choose the series episode or the movie you want to share with your friends or family and start watching the video. . Once the video is launched, click on the red “NP” icon at the top right of your Google Chrome browser. The extension then asks you if you want to be in sole control of the viewing (check “Only I have control” if you do not want to share control with others). All you have to do is click on “Start the party”. Netflix Party then gives you a link to share with those you want to watch your movie or episode with. Note that each of you must have installed Netflix Party on Google Chrome beforehand and each of you must be a Netflix subscriber to enjoy synced viewing via Netflix Party.
