Netflix Cancels Another Series

Netflix has quietly canceled the beloved Sandman-based series Dead Boy Detectives after one season.

Netflixcontinues its habit of canceling fan-favorite fantasy series. This time, it’s a series set in the Sandman universe Dead Boy Detectives series was canceled after one season. Adapted from the DC Comics series of the same name, this series began with high hopes and quickly gained a loyal fan base.

Netflix’s Beloved Fantasy Series Dead Boy Detectives Has Been Cancelled

According to Variety, Dead Boy Detectives will not be returning for a second season. The series’ plot revolved around two young friends, Edwin Payne (George Rexstrew) and Charles Rowland (Jayden Revri), who decide to give up on the afterlife and stay on Earth and try to solve strange, unusual crimes. Based on the comic book series of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Matt Wagner, this production successfully reflected the mysterious and dark atmosphere of the Sandman universe.

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU renewals played a major role in the series’ cancellation. Dead Boy Detectives was originally ordered as a pilot for HBO Max, but Netflix picked up the series after it was decided that the characters would not be part of the planned DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Unfortunately, the takeover didn’t last long.

Netflix has previously canceled a number of fantasy series with a fan base, including Warrior Nun, The Midnight Club, The OA, and Shadow and Bone. Most recently, even the new series from the creators of Dark, The Grimm Reality, was quietly shelved despite having already completed production.
