Israeli opposition leader Benny Gantz, who is part of Israel’s war cabinet, threatens to resign if Israel does not change direction in the Gaza war.

Gantz’s move on Saturday night was a direct challenge by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Gantz made six points in his speech. He said that if these are not met, he will resign on June 8 from the war cabinet in which he is one of three who rule. The war council was created days after the terror-labeled Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 last year.

Among the demands is that an international government should be created for Gaza, which must be demilitarized. Gantz also calls for the normalization of diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia.

The powerful opposition politician’s threat means that Prime Minister Netanyahu is isolated even more from the center parties in Israel – and thus becomes even more dependent on extreme nationalist parties on the right.
