Need to make an anonymous call without revealing your number

Need to make an anonymous call, without revealing your number? Just type a special code on your phone, mobile or landline: it’s simple and free, whatever the operator!

There are several good reasons to call anonymously from time to time, with a hidden number. This is particularly the case when you want to call a commercial or administrative service while remaining unknown, to get information without revealing your number so as not to be bothered or recorded in a database. But also when you want to surprise or joke with a loved one. As long as it is not diverted for malicious purposes, this practice is completely legal. Above all, it is very simple and completely free, whether with a smartphone or a landline.

So, to occasionally hide your number when calling with a mobile phone, simply dial the universal code #31# just before the number of your correspondent. For example, if you want to call 0123456789, you will simply have to type #31#0123456789 on your keypad and press the call button. The recipient will then see a message such as “Private number” or “Unknown” appear on their screen. This method works regardless of your operator (Orange, SFR, Bouygues, Free, etc.) and regardless of the phone model you use. However, remember that this must be repeated for each call if you do not want your number to appear.

If you want to hide your number permanently on your mobile, simulate a call by simply dialing the code *31# without any other number before validating. From this moment on, all your calls will be made in hidden mode, without having to dial a prefix each time. To return to a normal display, simply dial #31#.

It is also possible to temporarily hide your number using a landline. However, unlike mobile phones, the prefixes vary depending on the operator. For example, if you are with Bouygues Telecom, the code to dial will be *1651 before the number of your correspondent, while at Orange and SFR, it is the 3651. And at Free, you have to type *31*. Again, you will have to repeat this every time you call if you want to remain anonymous.

However, be careful when calling with a hidden number: the recipient can easily reject a hidden number, or even block all anonymous calls. In addition, be aware that operators and authorities can quite easily trace the origin of the call if necessary, following a complaint or an investigation. So, use this function with caution, and always in a respectful and legal manner.
