Degraded working conditions, lack of recognition, too low salary… The nursing profession is in crisis. According to an internal survey carried out by the Order of Nurses, nearly one in three nurses intends to “leave the profession in the next twelve months”.
Can we imagine a world without nurses? Could these healthcare professionals who dedicate their careers to taking care of others be lacking in the years to come? What would be the consequences for the sick, who cannot do without their daily care? So many questions raised by the National Order of Nurses (ONI).
A third of nurses plan to leave the profession
According to the results of the ONI survey, there are “urgency to act“. Indeed, the survey carried out among its members reveals the difficulties encountered by these health professionals. Among the respondents, 29% “plan to leave the profession in the next 12 months“and alone “27% would recommend the profession to their loved ones or their children“.
Various problems undermine the profession
The causes that led to this situation are also discussed. For the vast majority of nurses questioned – about nine out of ten – “their skills are not sufficiently recognized in society” and “their working conditions have deteriorated in recent months“. There is also the question of salary, generally not commensurate with the investment of these health professionals.
What consequences for the French in the future?
To complete this survey, the ONI also wanted to know the state of mind of the French on the question. In a study carried out by OpinionWay, 89% of French respondents regret that the skills of nurses are not sufficiently recognized by society.
More than nine out of ten French people also recognize that “their working conditions are increasingly difficult“. The survey also shows that the vast majority of respondents are worried about the “future degradation of the healthcare offer“and that may “endanger their health or that of their loved ones”.
