Nearly 129000 raised for warming cabinets at health alliance

Residents of Chatham-Kent helped raise nearly $129,000 towards warming cabinets for local hospitals while honoring loved ones.

The Chatham-Kent Health Alliance Foundation has reported its Christmas Wish Tree campaign resulted in over 700 people being recognized on the two trees at the Chatham and Wallaceburg sites. Over two months, the campaign raised $128,926.

“The success of this year’s fundraising campaign would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our community members and sponsors,” Bob Hockney, foundation board chair, said in a news release.

“The overwhelming response that our Christmas Wish Tree campaign receives every year illustrates how meaningful this local holiday tradition is here in Chatham-Kent, and further demonstrates our community’s strong commitment to supporting local healthcare.”

Proceeds will go towards purchasing warming cabinets at the health alliance’s two sites. Called a “high priority” by the hospital group, the cabinets ensure blankets are kept warm to help patients remain comfortable during their hospital stay.

The campaign was presented by Karen Ewald, senior portfolio manager and wealth advisor at RBC Wealth Management Dominion Securities. Other sponsors included MC Business Solutions, Western Equipment Ltd., WINMAR International Ltd. and Five Star Tool and Die Ltd.

“Thanks to the incredible generosity from throughout our community, this year’s campaign will have a direct impact for CKHA patients in Chatham and Wallaceburg,” Mary Lou Crowley, foundation president and CEO, said in the release.

“While simple, these Warming Cabinets provide the type of comfort that can make all the difference when you or a loved one end up in hospital. Thanks to support from across Chatham-Kent, more of our family, friends and neighbors will feel that warmth when they need it most.”

The foundation also honored local health care advocates lost in 2022, including Dr. Angelita Allen, Steve Bilodeau, Rex Crawford, John Meko Sr., Richard (Dick) Pollock and Ruth Tetrault.

The release said they supported local health care as philanthropists. A purple bulb was illuminated on the wish trees for each honoree.
