Nazis unleash killer mutants in World War II

Overlord was the code name for the Allied landings in Normandy during World War II. But the horror thriller Operation: Overlord by producer JJ Abrams is by no means a normal war film. In it, the Nazis are experimenting with killer mutants that stand in the way of the soldiers after the dangerous landing in France. This is simple, dirty and routinely staged entertainment.

On the evening of June 6, 1944, American parachutist Boyce (Jovan Adepo) finds himself in a crashing plane that was supposed to drop soldiers over France. This is how he escapes with his life, while most of his company lose their lives. Once on the ground, Boyce sets out with the survivors to raid a German base.

However, the American troops also stumble over the cruel experiments of the Nazis – with murderous consequences.

The entertaining genre thriller doesn’t stop at the characters

You should definitely not expect deeper insights into the nature of war from the perspective of the soldiers. After all, this isn’t Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers – We Were Like Brothers. Instead, director Julius Avery delivers one with Operation: Overlord hard war ripper who stages the nightly fighting with just as much flair as the growing mutant escalation in the second half.

The characterization of the characters is reduced to the essentials, so that Operation: Overlord always seems to be aware of what we want from the film: hard war action, horrific mutation effects and a few taciturn guys who have to deal with it.
