December 2019, the French company NAWATechnologies, specializing in supercapacitors, unveiled an incredible concept-bike of electric motorcycle powered by a device hybrid storage and retrieval ofenergy unpublished. What was initially a technological demonstration dedicated to extolling the potential of supercapacitors based on carbon nanotubes, will take shape.

Indeed, NAWATechnologies will benefit from the EICMA fair which will be held next week in Milan (Italy) to unveil a rolling prototype of the Nawa Racer. This electric motorcycle inspired by style café racer is the result of a 100% French consortium formed by NAWATechnologies, AKKA Technologies, Pronergy, FAAR and YSY Group.

300 km of autonomy

The Nawa Racer is equipped with a hybrid power system combining a set of supercapacitors 0.1 kWh with a lithium-ion battery of only 9 kWh. NAWATechnologies ensures that its pack supercapacitors can recover more than 80% of the energy produced during braking, which makes it possible to be satisfied with such a modest lithium-ion battery. This minimalist configuration results in a total weight of 150 kg, significantly lower than that of a motorbike “classic” electric. Its 100 HP hubless rim motor can knock down 0 to 100 in less than three seconds and reach 160 km / h in speed peak.

At the moment, NAWATechnologies has not yet made clear whether or not the Nawa Racer will have a commercial future. The interest it will arouse at the EICMA fair could tip the scales in this direction.

Nawa Racer, an amazing supercapacitor and lithium battery motorcycle

The French company Nawa Technologies, specializing in supercapacitors, will be present at CES 2020 with an electric motorcycle concept-bike that integrates a unique energy storage and recovery system. It gives it 300 km of autonomy in the urban cycle.

If you like this electric motorcycle, and there is something, wait before rushing to find out where to buy it. Because, unfortunately, it is not doomed to be produced. This is a concept developed by Nawa Technologies, a French company founded in 2013 and based in Rousset in the Bouches-du-Rhône which specializes in supercapacitors, based on carbon nanotubes.

To demonstrate the efficiency of its technology, the company created this superb electric motorcycle, the Nawa Racer, which is equipped with a hybrid power system combining a set of 0.1 kWh supercapacitors with a lithium-ion battery of only 9 kWh. Nawa Technlogies ensures that its pack of supercapacitors can recover more than 80% of the energy produced during braking, which makes it possible to be satisfied with such a modest lithium-ion battery.

Despite this, the announced autonomy is 150 km in the mixed cycle and 300 km in the city. ” The NawaCap Supercapacitor Pack recharges in just two minutes and the entire battery can be charged to 80% in an hour even from home power with an innovative fast-charging mode that takes advantage of supercapacitors », Explains the company.

The Nawa Racer weighs only 150 kg

The supercapacitors are integrated in the upper part of the tank while the lithium-ion battery takes place in the lower part of the chassis, where the engine is usually located on thermal motorcycles. The advantage of the hybrid system is that it allows the size of the lithium-ion battery to be reduced by up to 50% for equal autonomy. This gives a significant weight saving and also allows more freedom regarding the design. Add to that a frame and wheels in carbon fibers, composite body parts and you get a total weight of 150 kg, which is 25% less than an electric motorcycle, according to its designers.

Nawa Technologies announces that its 100 HP hubless rim motor can knock down from 0 to 100 in less than three seconds and reach 160 km at top speed. Thanks to supercapacitors, the Nawa Racer will offer the same acceleration capacity regardless of the battery charge level. The electric motorcycle will be exhibited at Consumer Electronics Show next January as a demonstrator technological.

Although so far this is only a vision of an electric motorcycle of the future, Nawa Racer’s hybrid battery system can be applied to all electric vehicles and the technology could go into production in a near future. very near future », Assures the company. Let us recall that Lamborghini has been exploring the track of supercapacitors for a few years now, first of all with its concept car. Terzo millennio then, this year, with the Lamborghini Sián which will be the first supercapacitor hybrid supercar.
