Navalny’s lawyers are sentenced to prison in Russia

Vadim Kobzev, Igor Sergunin and Aleksej Lipster were arrested in October 2023, accused of “extremism”. Among other things, the lawyers allegedly passed on letters from the then-imprisoned Navalny to the staff of his anti-corruption movement – which in turn is classified as an extremist group by Russian authorities.

They now face between three and a half and five and a half years in prison, according to the independent Russian news site Mediazona.

Putin critic Navalny was sentenced to over 30 years in prison for extremism. He died under unclear circumstances in a penal colony in Russia almost a year ago.
