Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny’s body has been handed over to the family. That’s what his spokesperson Kira Jarmysji writes in a post on X.
“Aleksey’s body was handed over to his mother. Many thanks to everyone who demanded this,” she writes in the post.
Kira Jarmysji further writes that planning for the funeral is ongoing.
“We don’t know if the authorities will step in, and let the family implement it as they want, and as Aleksej deserves,” she writes.
More information about the funeral will come shortly, adds Jarmysji.
The announcement comes nine days after Navalny’s death was announced.
Navalnaya to new attack on Putin
His widow, Yulia Navalnaya, has previously attacked Russian President Vladimir Putin, claiming that she has proof that Putin killed her husband, and that he is holding the body hostage.
On Saturday morning, she went on another attack against Putin. In a published video, Navaknaya accused the Russian leader of personally ordering that Navalny’s body not be released to his family. Kyiv Independent reports.
In the video, Yulia Navalnaya accuses Putin of violating “all laws, both heavenly and earthly.”
– This is not even hatred – it is some form of Satanism or paganism. What do you plan to do with his body? How far will you go to mock the man you killed?, she says.
Burial in secret
Alexei Navalny’s mother Lyudmila Navalnaya was allowed to see her dead son’s body after several days of pleading.
According to the son’s spokesperson, the mother must have received an ultimatum to carry out the funeral in secret without the opportunity for the public to say goodbye.
“Otherwise we will bury him within the prison grounds,” Russian investigators are said to have threatened Alexei Navalny’s mother with.
Navalny, Putin’s main political opponent, died on February 16 in the Arctic penal colony where he was serving a sentence totaling more than 30 years.
