On Twitter Navalny writes:
“Some words from the guy who is always the last to find out. This is not my film, I did not win an Oscar and am not in a position to dedicate this award to anyone. However, I would like to dedicate my contribution to it this film to all honest and brave people all over the world who day after day find the strength to confront the monster of dictatorship and its constant companion – war”.
The 46-year-old received information about the film award from his lawyer via video link during a court hearing.
“I had a very strange feeling at that moment,” writes Navalny, thanking the theme behind the film, Canadian director Daniel Roher, his “right hand” Maria Pevtchich and investigative journalist Christo Grozev.
Navalny also thanked his wife Yulia, who was in Hollywood on Sunday to accept the award.
“Julia, thank you for being there and supporting and on a couple of occasions stopping me from killing the film crew,” he writes.
Navalny has often criticized Russia’s offensive in Ukraine from prison and called on the Russian people to protest. Commenting on the award, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says Hollywood is “politicizing” the film industry.
