NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg talks about his meeting with

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan have discussed, among other things, Sweden’s NATO application.

Secretary General of NATO Jens Stoltenberg has met the president of Turkey on Sunday Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.

Stoltenberg and Erdoğan discussed, among other things, NATO’s summit in Vilnius in July and Sweden’s NATO application.

On Saturday, Stoltenberg participated in the swearing-in ceremony of Erdoğan, who started the new presidential term.

Turkey has not yet ratified Sweden’s NATO membership. Sweden has hoped that Turkey would open the door to NATO after the country’s presidential election by the time of the Vilnius summit. Erdoğan won the election in the second round on 28 May.

Stoltenberg has previously stressed that Sweden has met Turkey’s demands, and that Sweden should be accepted as a NATO member as soon as possible.
