NATO discussion postponed until autumn

According to the Hungarian media company 24.hu, no joint decision on the date for ratification of a Swedish NATO membership was made. According to Péter Szijjártó, Hungary’s Minister of Trade, who reported from the meeting, the two leaders had stated that both countries’ parliaments are on summer break, and that they will return to the issue in the fall.

However, the two countries agreed to expand and prioritize strategic cooperation. Energy supply was also discussed during the meeting, said Trade Minister Szijjártó.

The two leaders met at the Prime Minister’s residence in Budapest. It is the first time since 2019 that the Turkish president is visiting Hungary.
