NATO country Turkey aims to join China and Russia in

By joining the BRICS group, Turkey would be the alliance’s first NATO member.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met the Turkish Foreign Minister yesterday, Tuesday Hakan Fidani in Beijing.

In connection with the meeting, the Turkish minister assured China that Turkey is seriously pursuing membership in the BRICS alliance formed by the world’s growing economies. An English-language newspaper operating from Hong Kong tells about it South China Morning Post (SCMP).

According to SCMP, Fidan also said that he is looking forward to attending the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting, which will be held next week in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Turkey, which has also been seeking EU membership for a long time, would be the alliance’s first NATO member when it joins the BRICS group.

BRICS is originally an alliance formed by Russia, China, Brazil, India and South Africa. Its purpose is to act as a counter force to the G7 group, which consists of the world’s largest economies.

Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates also joined the BRICS alliance in January.

Among the BRICS countries, at least China and Iran have supported Russia’s military actions in Ukraine, and not a single member of the alliance has condemned Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.
