Third day of the Nations League on the program with the France team which must play again against Belgium
The Blues had to react, the Blues succeeded in doing so. Facing Israel, in a complicated geopolitical context, the French team won its second match in the League of Nations with a score of 4-1 against the Israelis. Despite the surprise equalizer, France was clearly on top despite errors that the coach noted at the end of the match. “We had a lot of striking situations, especially in the first half. The starters? That was never really our strong point. That in no way takes away the merit of Mattéo and Bradley, who scored. C Is the speech at half-time very good? There is the loss of the ball which leads to the equalizer. I was rather critical at half-time. The opponent feeds on that, a little overconfidence or ease… We had losses of balls that we shouldn’t have in the first half. “
The Blues took advantage of Italy’s misstep, a 2-2 draw against Belgium, to come back to 1 point. Next match for the France team, Monday October 14 at 8:45 p.m. against Belgium while Italy faces Israel.
The new rules
The fourth edition of the Nations League began in September 2024, with several major changes. If the organization by league is in continuity with previous editions, with four leagues A, B, C and D in order of level, quarter-finals and promotion/relegation play-offs have been added to the system.
For the first time in this 2024-2025 edition, quarter-finals have been scheduled before the Final Four, bringing together the four best teams in the tournament. The knockout phase was thus reserved for the first two teams in each group of League A, whereas previously only the first could participate.
The quarter-finals of the 2025 Nations League, with the eight qualified teams, were planned according to classic two-legged matches, before the semi-finals and the final, organized as single matches in a host country, as in previous editions.
Also for the first time, inter-league promotion and relegation play-offs were planned. As in the first three editions, the last of each group is relegated to the lower league and the first promoted to the higher league. The new feature is therefore a play-off between the third places in each group against the second places in the lower league groups, always according to the principle of two-way matches. Since League D only has 6 teams, only the two leading teams have a chance of moving up to the higher league, while the two worst fourth-placed teams in League C are condemned to relegation.
To further add to the stakes, four tickets for the play-offs of the World Cup 2026 were also reserved for the best teams in this Nations League, not qualified via the playoffs.
Here is the ranking of the 2024-2025 Nations League, by league and by group. France is classified in Group 2 of League A with Belgium, Italy and Israel. The ranking is updated after each day.

The Nations Football League is organized into four leagues. The first four and the second four of the League A groups qualify for the quarter-finals in two-legged matches, then the winners play Final Four (semi-finals + final).
The group winners of Leagues B, C and D are promoted to the higher leagues and the bottom finishers of Leagues A and B are relegated to the lower leagues. Each team ranked third in its group plays a play-off in two-way matches to maintain itself, against a second group from the lower league who is playing for promotion.
Since League D only has 6 teams, only the two teams who came at the top of their group move up, and the two worst fourth-placed teams in League C go down.
The 2024-2025 Nations League distributes four precious tickets for the 2026 World Cup play-offs. The four best nations in the general ranking of the Nations League (a 4th in League A group is just ahead of a 1st in League group B for example), who have not already qualified directly for the World Cup or the play-offs via the qualifiers, get these tickets. These four teams will join the twelve teams who finished second in the group in the qualifiers, to be divided into four paths of four teams in the form of a semi-final and final in a single match, each path winner qualifying for the World Cup.
