National team volleyball player Sakari Makinen in a serious car

Akaa-Volley announced that star player Sakari Mäkinen was involved in a serious car accident on Sunday morning.

Akaa-Volley, which plays in the Men’s Volleyball Championship League, announces its general players Sakari Mäkinen having been in a serious car accident on Sunday morning.

According to the club’s press release, Mäkinen has received appropriate treatment at Tampere University Hospital and his recovery from the accident looks good.

– The Akaa-Volley family wishes Sakar and his relatives strength in dealing with the case and in Sakar’s recovery. We also wish Sakar and the team time and peace in dealing with the matter, Akaa-Volley executive director Panu Pitkänen commented in the announcement.

Mäkinen returned to Finland from Holland last summer. Before moving to the Netherlands, he won three consecutive Finnish championships in the years 2021–2023 in VaLePa. Mäkinen has also played in Belgium and Belarus.

Mäkinen has represented Finland once in the World Championships and twice in the European Championships. He is a second-generation volleyball player – father Arto Mäkinen also represented the Finnish national team.
