Natasa Pirc Musar becomes the first female president of Slovenia

In the presidential election held in Slovenia on October 23, the election was left to the second round as none of the 7 candidates could reach 50 percent of the vote. After the end of the voting process in the second round of the election, 86.7 of the votes were counted. According to unofficial results, Natasa Pirc Musar, backed by the Slovenian Pirate Party and the European Green Party, won with 53.83 percent of the vote. Musar became the country’s first female president.

ELECTION RATE 49.9 PERCENT

Independent candidate and former Foreign Minister Anze Logar, supported by Musar’s rival, the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS), received 46.17 percent of the votes counted. The voter turnout remained at 49.9 percent.

Musar, 54, is a lawyer and has campaigned on human rights, the rule of law and social welfare before the election. (UAV)
