The exciting statement came from NASA. The James Webb Space Telescope, the most advanced ‘eye’ of the space agency, made the first exoplanet discovery and this news managed to become the agenda in the scientific world. There is one important detail about the planet, which is 44 light-years away and is officially named LHS 475 b. It is quite surprising too.
IT IS NEARLY THE SAME SIZE AS THE WORLD
Researchers have confirmed an exoplanet for the first time using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, according to NASA’s statement. Officially named LHS 475 b, the planet’s diameter is said to be 99 percent of Earth’s diameter and almost exactly the same size as Earth.
“NO DOUBT THAT YOU’RE THERE”
“There’s no doubt that the planet is there,” said Jacob Lustig-Yaeger of the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. “Webb’s pristine data confirm this.”
IT CAN’T BE SAYING WHAT IS, BUT IT CAN BE SAYING WHAT IS NOT
Although data show LHS 475 b is an Earth-sized terrestrial planet, it is not yet known whether it has an atmosphere. While the team can’t conclude what is there, they can say with certainty what isn’t.
According to the reports, this planet cannot have a dense methane-dominated atmosphere similar to that of Saturn’s moon Titan.
Webb also revealed that the planet is several hundred degrees hotter than Earth.
