NASA has shared the first photographs taken by the James Webb Telescope. Spectacular images, and of very high quality, which you can perfectly download to make wallpapers.

The Nasa (the mythical American National Aeronautics and Space Administration) unveiled a few days ago the first images taken by the James Webb Telescope. Launched on December 25, 2021, this gigantic space observation instrument produced in collaboration with the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency, is now 1.5 million kilometers from Earth. With this privileged position, he can take original shots of space, capturing infrared radiation – therefore information invisible to the naked eye. Above all, he observes far in distance, and therefore far in time. Indeed, according to the laws of physics – light travels at some 300,000 km per second – the light which comes to us from the stars – and therefore their image – takes thousands, millions or billions of years to reach us, depending on their distance – we see some distant stars that have long since disappeared… The James Webb telescope will allow us to go back in time to see the formation of the first galaxies and to analyze the clouds of dust, where stars and planets are formed. planets, about 13.8 billion years ago, the goal being to go back as far as possible in time – therefore in distance – to recover information on the formation of the Universe, just after the Big Band.

James Webb: photos of incredible quality

In addition to their incredible quality, the first images of James Webb shared by NASA – and which have gone around the world and the media since their release – are spectacular, not to say dreamlike. To the point that many seek to use them to make desktop or smartphone wallpapers. Here they are in different high definition formats that you can easily download.

  • SMACS 0723 galaxy clusterdescribed by NASA as “the deepest, sharpest infrared image of the distant universe to date”.

  • The Carina Nebulaone of the largest and brightest nebulae in the sky, home to many massive stars, much larger than the sun.

  • The Southern Ring Nebula is a planetary nebula – an expanding cloud of gas surrounding a dying star. It measures nearly half a light-year in diameter and is located about 2,000 light-years from Earth.

  • Stephan’s Quintet located about 290 million light-years away, is the visual grouping of billions of galaxies located in the constellation Pegasus.

You can easily set these images as wallpaper on your computer or smartphone. The method varies according to the operating systems, but the manipulations are simple. The portrait format images above are cropped for phones. Complete images are much heavier: do not hesitate to crop them and adapt them to the resolution of your screen – in general, 72 or 96 dpi is enough –, because the shots provided by NASA are in 300 dpi: a resolution very high, ideal for printing, but useless on most screens.
