The proposal that the initiator gives is a ticket that is valid for 30 minutes and costs between SEK 15-20, as a complement to the single ticket that exists today that costs SEK 36 for 90 minutes within a zone.
– It struck me that most trips I make are under 20 minutes, but I pay for the full 90. That absurdity grew in me at the same time as I saw increased pressure on social media about civilian controllers. Why don’t people pay? Because they don’t think it’s worth paying for more than what they actually go, says Pär, who is the initiator of the petition. He does not want to participate with surnames.
Do you ever plank?
– Yes, it happens, short distances. But I would rather pay if the ticket price was adjusted to the travel time.
Affects the entire Västtrafik ticket system
But introducing such a ticket is not so easy, says Louise Jeppsson (V), chairwoman of the Infrastructure and Public Transport Board.
– Introducing such a ticket will have consequences for the entire ticket range and also how we can price in relation to the existing ticket range.
Västtrafik has calculated that they lose about half a billion every year to theft. Do you think a ticket like this would have made more people pay?
– It is probably very difficult to say. I think above all that it should be seen from the perspective of the complexity of introducing a new ticket. So I don’t make the clear connection that it would be a panacea to get more people to pay.
However, Louise Jeppsson does not rule out that in the future it may become relevant to introduce some type of short-term ticket.
– In that case, it may be prompted by an investigation.
To be left to decision makers
In approximately two weeks, the collection of names must be submitted to elected officials in Västtrafik.
– But it’s not like I have huge hopes that Västtrafik will listen to a small petition, says Pär.
