(Telestock) – The floriculture confirms itself as one of the leading sectors of Made in Italy and continues to make record numbers – represents 4.7% of agricultural production and exports are worth 5.1% of the world’s – despite the impact of the adverse weather (hailstorms or late frosts, prolonged periods of intense heat, absence of precipitation or heavy rain) and the cost volatility supported by farmers.
This is what he underlines Myplant & Gardenthe largest b2b trade fair for horticulture, gardening, landscaping and sports greenery, scheduled at Fiera Milano Rho from 19 to 21 February 2025. The last edition, in February 2024, recorded great numbers with 762 exhibitors (+15% on 2023), 204 delegations of international buyers (+27%) and 25,000 attendees (+8%), with 45 countries represented in 4 continents.
In 2023, the production floriculture national has remained around the peak reached in 2022, with 3 billion and 143 million euros of value, equal to 4.7% of Italian agricultural production. In particular, the flower crops they settled down to 1.465 billion of euros (2.2% of Italian agricultural production), while production Nurseries they keep themselves at 1.678 billion of euros (2.5% of Italian agricultural crops).
Exports also confirm their position at the international topcertifying Italy as second European exporting power and third in the worldwith over 1.2 billion euros of plant products, equal to 5.1% of world exports (stable in 2022). “The stability of Italian exports is a very important and appreciable fact – Myplant underlines -, in a context in which many other major powers in the sector have shown declines and uncertainties in exports. Italian productions are an excellence recognized in the world, which shows itself to be resilient even in difficult times”.
The world scenario is dominated by the Netherlandswhich represent 48.2% of global exports, followed by Colombia which represents 8.2% of exports (almost 2 billion euros). After Italy, they are followed by Germany (4.1% of the total) and Ecuador (3.9% of the total). On the other hand, the following stand out: double-digit drops Of China (in tenth position with 2% of global exports) and USA (in eleventh position with 1.9% of global exports) together with Denmarkwhich ranks twelfth (1.7% of world exports.
Although still marginal, the percentage increases in theItalian export to Croatia (+12% above 14.5 million euros) and Türkiye (+75% to 13 million).
Among the main ones supply markets of floriculture there is the Old Continent: the Netherlands are the main supplier of floricultural products (about 69% of total imports in Italy), followed by Spain (7.3%), France (5.2%), Germany (4.6%) and Poland (3.3%).
There trade balance of the sector is confirmed positive with a estimated surplus of 315 million euros. Particularly positive for the Italian balance are trade with France (+220 million), Germany (+150 million), Switzerland (+58 million), Great Britain (+44 million despite the drop in exports). Negative balances instead towards Spain (-25 million) and Netherlands (-400 million).
Also worth mentioning is the solidity of the entries relating to the support and secondary activities to the agricultural sector: +26.5% for the land maintenance and +20% for the arrangement of parks and gardens.
