My favorite game of 2021 is now available on Steam for €16 – I’ve played it for 200 hours and I’m not even close

The current Steam Summer Sale offers a lot of offers on many great games. One of my favorite games of 2021 is also on offer. I’ve sunk over 200 hours into Monster Hunter Rise and haven’t even come close to completing everything. Why it’s so great and worth every second, you can see here.

What is Monster Hunter Rise? Monster Hunter Rise is the latest installment in the Monster Hunter series from Capcom. In essence, you hunt large monsters alone or with up to 3 other players in various missions.

Every fight feels like a big boss fight. After each battle you can disassemble or catch the monster and get a lot of resources. From these resources you can create new weapons or pieces of armor in the base that serves as a hub.

Upon release on Steam, the game shot straight into the top 10.

Why is Monster Hunter Rise so good? The game has many points that make it so good for me. The choice of weapons alone offers great scope for development. 14 weapon types offer everything for strong or fast melee combat as well as ranged combat options.

Due to the wirebug added in this part, the movement in combat is more dynamic than ever. Buzzing around your opponent with a grappling hook is just plain satisfying. The new companion in the form of a dog is the icing on the cake and allows you to quickly explore and move around the different maps.

In addition to the gameplay aspects, there is an endless amount to do. In addition to main missions that tell a little story of the hunter’s village, there is a huge number of side quests that offer many challenges. A tightened team of hunters is worth it.

Event quests have also been added over the course of the release, offering not only exciting challenges but also collaborations with other brands such as Sonic. As a result, you unlock costumes that match the collaborations.

After almost 200 hours I finished the story and many of the side quests. But just crafting a lot of armor to be perfectly equipped against all the monsters motivates me. The feeling of learning a monster better and better after many kills is also a big motivating factor. By the time you’ve finished grinding all the event quests, you’re pretty busy.

Co-op in the game is fairly easy, and missions can be played with friends as well as random players. The best co-op game 2021 is also available in the current Steam Sale.

The monsters are the star of the show

But the real highlight for me are the monsters that you hunt. Many of the enemies in Monster Hunter Rise are based on creatures from Japanese mythology. A kappa, an oni demon or even a spirit umbrella can be found in the monsters. These are always superbly designed, and their attacks show their personality.

The armor and weapons that can be crafted with their resources also reflect their design and behavior in combat.

You will also spend a lot of time in the forge menu. In addition to weapons and armor, which have various strengths, weaknesses and passive effects, jewels that refine your builds are also important for the endgame.

Preparation is the be-all and end-all. If you want to fight a poisonous monster, you should take antidote with you. You can use flash bombs to drop flying monsters. Due to the different aspects of the monsters, the preparation is also a fun loop in Monster Hunter Rise.

How much does Monster Hunter Rise cost? You can get the game in the current summer sale on Steam for €15.99 instead of €39.99. This offer is valid until July 13, 2023. On top of that, want more content for the game? Then there’s the Sunbreak DLC. This offers at least as much content as the main game.

People who only know the game from the Switch can also take a look here, because many features, such as the better frame rate or widescreen support, make the game shine again on Steam.

EA also tried its hand at the monster hunting genre earlier this year:
