In our MX vs ATV Legends review content, we discuss the basic structure and details of the arcade off-road racing game for you.
It was really hard for me to write the MX vs ATV Legends review content. Since it was the first game that I played and studied as soon as I returned from the military, I tried to examine all the details of the game with a fresh and untouched approach. After being away from games for a long time, I realized that I could actually examine more objectively and in detail. Anyway, I don’t want to bore you with these conversations. Let’s see how the game turned out.
MX vs ATV Legends Review
To be honest, MX vs ATV Legends seemed a little hollow to me in general. Even though it was decorated with beautiful graphics, it felt like there was something raw in its structure. Although the driving mechanics are not bad, the physics, animations and especially the sounds are not at all satisfactory. I will talk about sounds and animations in a separate paragraph, but first let’s talk about what you can do in the game.
Career mode as you know
MX vs ATV Legends career mode progresses as we are used to from such games. There is a map in the game where our character and the team members around him are collected. After participating in the races and getting results, we return to this map and talk to the team members and make progress. But let’s see, this process unfortunately did not go that way for me. Towards the middle of the game, when he sent me to our home base after a race and gave me the “Talk to a team member” task, I noticed that no team members were marked on the map. I went through all of them thinking that maybe it is a problem with the minimap, but I guess I couldn’t encounter dialog blocks because the task was not triggered. Since I am still doing my motor career, I started to switch to ATV and UTV vehicles and participate in their races. Yes, you can choose other vehicles without entering into a dialogue and progress to a certain extent in their careers. So did I. Ultimately, although I made progress in the careers of other vehicles, I came to the same point in all of them and I was stuck. This bug in the game prevented me from progressing any further.
In short, I can say that I have consumed most of the content in the game. There is nothing very special to offer you anyway, change vehicles, improve, race, win, advance. Participate in big competitions and reach the peak of your career. The basic structure, which we encounter in almost every racing game, does not leave us alone in MX vs ATV Legends. You can change and improve the appearance and features of your motorcycle, ATV and UTV vehicles. However, it does not make you feel much in the game that you have developed the technical features of your vehicle. I can say that I find this place particularly lacking.
MX vs ATV Legends driving mechanics are not bad but not good either
Perhaps one of the most curious subjects in MX vs ATV Legends game will be driving mechanics. Let me say this; neither very good nor very bad. After all, let me state from the beginning that we should approach it without forgetting that we are playing an arcade racing game. There is absolutely no quest for realism, it just needs to be fun and playable. When you look at it from this perspective, the game will meet your expectations. Sometimes it can be fun to fly from a stone with a motor – yes, if you hit it properly enough – flying 25 meters from a height of 10 meters with a blind eye. Not usually. However, in such places, the character falls from the engine in such places and in such places, you never know what the bumpy road will bring you. Sometimes you can hit a stone and fly badly to the left and right, and sometimes you can hit a relatively small stone and fall from the engine. This can be annoying at times—especially when you’re leading the race.
The mechanics of the motorcycle are quite simple, it was fun and exciting to play with the controller. But I can’t say the same for ATVs and UTVs. Because you have nothing to balance, just stay out of the way. We can say that the suspensions are realistic according to an arcade game and imaginary according to a simulation. They managed to get the consistency of the earlobe there. However, no matter how much you upgrade, UTVs DO NOT “ROT” – as anyone who plays GRID will understand very well. Let me close the topic of driving mechanics by saying that I spent my most enjoyable hours in the career mode with motorcycle races.
MX vs ATV Legends map designs have been the strongest aspect of the game
The production, which has a strong hand in terms of the possibilities provided by the graphics engine it uses, comes to the fore with its section designs and visuality. As I mentioned at the beginning of our MX vs ATV Legends review content, although that feeling of uncookedness persists, it at least tries to make up for it with its views. “Would I expect the same success in other mechanics if the graphics didn’t look so good?” When I ask myself the question, I remain unanswered. Still, in 2022, as I’m playing an upcoming racing game, I say “I would probably wait”.
Visual realism is high in the game where we drive against different landscapes in different climates. At the same time, this visuality does not require a very powerful system from you. I was able to exceed 50 FPS very comfortably in ultra settings on my aging mid-segment system, which I still cannot renew. If my old man played it, I say that all above-average systems can play it very comfortably. However, let me state that my processor is AMD FX-8370e, my graphics card is 1050Ti, and I use 16GB of RAM.
Graphics aside, the design of the racetracks is also nice. Lots of jumping and flying races, short cuts that require skill and vision, and sudden bends that will keep you on your toes increase the pleasure of the game. In fact, the driving mechanics of the game could be used in this way. Racetracks have some traps, if I said traps, don’t think of traps like a bear trap. For example, before you reach a very sharp bend, there is a jumping bump on the right side of the road and a different part on the left, which tends towards the slope of the bend. If you fall into a trap and jump off a mound, you’ll probably swerve off the road and finish the race last. Such little things may make you angry, but they allow you to experience the game better.
Sound and animations that finish your whole mood
Let me state that I have a great discomfort with the sounds and music in the game. Maybe you will like the music because you will enjoy the music somewhere, but the sound effects are really disgraceful. They probably recorded the sound of the tires as they slide on the ground from the phone microphone. The quality is creeping in. Imagine rubbing a piece of cloth against your microphone and recording sound, something like that. Ok the game is arcade but engine sounds shouldn’t be like that either. I can say that I did not like MX vs ATV Legends in terms of sound.
At the same time, the artificial intelligence animations in the game are really disturbing. There are a number of regulations that I interpret for performance optimization. So much so that the animations of the artificial intelligence in the game -I don’t know for sure, but- are played at 15 FPS. This kills the fluidity of their movements. All the movements they make on the engine look frame-by-frame. This presents a really unpleasant visual.
long story short
In short, if you are good with off-road racing games, we can say that MX vs ATV Legends is a “not bad” game for you. If the music selections, animation playback speeds and sound effects were different, if the driving mechanics were enjoyable for all vehicles and the improvements were palpable, we would be talking about much different things now. But here is the MX vs ATV Legends review with all its sweet and salty sides. The game will go on sale tomorrow and interestingly, it’s still available today. On the Steam store page No price is specified. That’s why I’m leaving a message for the future, if the game is under 100 TL, try it, if it’s more expensive, don’t approach. That’s all from me for now, hope to see you in another review, stay with love and game.
