Gisèle Pélicot, 71, the woman at the center of a high-profile French mass rape trial, is demanding that society begin to look differently at sexual violence.

– It is time for the macho society, the patriarchal society, which trivializes rape to change, she says in court ahead of this week’s closing arguments.

Her ex-husband Dominique Pélicot and dozens of other men are on trial, accused of raping her while she was drugged.

The trial ends this week and the judgment in the high-profile case is expected next month.
