Must be easier to get protected personal data

It must become easier to obtain protected personal data. This is what police and prosecutors believe after the recent shootings where people without a direct connection to gang crime fell victim.
According to the police, there are currently over a thousand people who can be described as threatened in connection with the increasingly reckless violence.

The recent shootings and violence reach far beyond the criminal circles. There are several examples of so-called mistaken shootings where completely innocent people are affected. The police have an image of young, stressed perpetrators, with no thought of consequences, who google information about victims which then turns out to be incorrect.

– We have the principle of openness in Sweden, we must be careful about it. But it’s too easy to find addresses, people with a search on the internet, and it’s not always that these mappings are relevant on the basis that it’s the right family ties you find, says Max Åkerwall, deputy commanding officer of the police.

The police are supported by prosecutors, who also think it is too easy to find people via the internet.

– Perhaps one should think about more people getting a confidentiality marking, says Lise Tamm, chief prosecutor.

Foot shackle at Sis home

Max Åkerwall has also suggested that young people cared for in, for example, Sis homes should be given an electronic foot shackle.

– A very large number of both the victims and the perpetrators are separated from various forms of accommodation. If there are various forms of coercive decisions on the part of Social Services combined with being in an institution like this, then we might have to consider in the short term whether it should not be combined with an electronic foot shackle or the like, says Max Åkerwall.
