During the week, the audience sent in 73,000 song requests – and it was the hockey supporters who dominated.
– HV71’s entrance into the top list last year has undeniably caused ripples in the water and inspired other teams around Sweden. It is fantastic that hockey patriotism has been able to contribute to this year’s cause, says Mari Hesthammer, music editor at Musikhjälpen in a press release.
However, no other team managed to beat HV71, who takes first place in both song and artist requests.
First place among the collection guns went to 3-year-old Zeke. With over SEK 2.3 million, “Zeke’s dinosaur bag” is the largest private bag ever in Musikhjälpen.
Broadcast since 2008
Musikhjälpen was broadcast for the first time in 2008 and the collection then, in the context, yielded a modest three million kroner.
In 2017, Musikhjälpen set a magnificent record by collecting a total of SEK 74,410,363. Then Umeå was the host.
This year’s theme was “everyone has the right to survive their pregnancy”. Radiohjälpen, together with SVT, SR and UR, must coordinate the collection to support humanitarian purposes.
