MUSIC FESTIVAL. Paris, Lille, Montpellier, Rennes, Marseille… Everywhere in France, the Fête de la Musique is getting ready!

And for good reason, after two years of distancing and health restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this popular and free event is celebrating its 40th anniversary this Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Created by Jack Langthen Minister of Culture, in 1982, the Fête de la Musique became an unmissable event at the start of summer, also celebrating the longest day of the year.
The Fête de la Musique has even succeeded in being exported beyond the French borders. Street concerts, in theaters, in cafes, bars or restaurants, this year again, many events are organized. The big ones, like the small towns of France, host many concerts. And there’s something for everyone ! As everywhere in France, the capital will also vibrate on June 21. Dozens of bars, cafes, restaurants, concert halls or street corners will offer regulars and the curious a variety of events.
- Palace of theElysium : like every year, the presidential residence opens its doors for a giant concert with, this year, Charlie Winston, Youssou N’Dour, Synapson, and Xenia! 2,000 places are to be filled, from this Monday at 10 a.m. on the Elysée website ;
- Army museum : proposes to discover its collections in music;
- music festival at Small palace : the association Jeunes Talents is offering a series of five classical music mini-concerts;
- Radio France Auditorium : an evening with the Viva l’Orchestra;
- The Fip Music Festival : the radio is organizing a concert at the Arènes de Lutèce, notably with Metronomy, Ibeyi, Laurent Bardainne and Bertrand Belin. Reservations open this Friday, June 10 at 10 a.m. on the site the House of Radio and Music;
- Palais-Royal : the Ministry of Culture organizes an open stage bringing together amateurs and professionals, young talents and experienced musicians, contemporary music, classical music and world music, with Julien Clerc, Anne Paceo, Sopico, DakhaBrakha and Temenik Electric;
- La Villette : from 4 p.m. to midnight, Dour festival and Technopol offer a techno/house evening at the Parc de la Villette;
This year, the big concert of La Fête de la Musique, broadcast on France 2, will take place in Montpellier, on the Esplanade de l’Europe. Admission is free, but requires registration: it was therefore possible to complete an online form, on host city website. It only took a few hours for all the places to be distributed.
The evening, which will see many artists parade for more than three hours, will be hosted by Garou and Laury Thillemann. Are expected: Bigflo & Oli, Kungs, Zaz, Marc Lavoine, Nolwenn Leroy, Ofenbach, Dadju, Pierre de Maere and Claudio Capeo. Everyone will celebrate the forty years of La Fête de la Musique!
In Lille too, we celebrate music. On June 21, many events are planned throughout the city, throughout the evening and well into the night. Among the evening appointments, here is our selection:
- ATABAK : the samba school welcomes you place de la République from 7 p.m.;
- suburb of music : are offered different gigs in the courtyard of the Trulin school;
- Switch : on the forecourt of Euratechnologies, Le Switch is back from 5 p.m. for a mini festival with different groups and a DJ Set;
- Countess Hospice : in the courtyard of the building, several concerts, in particular the groups John Jon and Stag Stone at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
It should also be noted that part of the city center will be pedestrianized from 6 p.m. and bars and restaurants will be able to open an hour longer, until 2 a.m., when the terraces can remain open until 11 p.m.
Toulouse is also preparing to vibrate to the sound of the Fête de la Musique, with entertainment authorized in public spaces from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Many spontaneous meetings are planned all over the city.
- Full Lighthouse : open air Techno Place de l’Europe from 5 p.m.;
- Chorus : Brazilian evening;
- Place Saint-Aubin : the Saint-Aubin neighborhood association (BVSA) offers a series of concerts by local groups, from 6 p.m. until midnight;
- Hotel of the Department : the A Tempo music school offers a concert in support of Ukraine;
- Raymond VI Garden : COMDT concert (Occitan Center for Traditional Music and Dance);
- Login : partygoers can find Toulouse nights in this institution, for an evening made up of DJ sets and concerts, from 6 p.m.
On June 21, Marseille will be no exception to the Fête de la Musique with many events planned throughout the evening and part of the night. Several places open their doors to visitors on this occasion, here is our selection:

- Italian Cultural Institute.
Note also various appointments in parks, bars and restaurants, but also in the ports of the city.
Pop, rock, jazz… In Rennes, you’ll be spoiled for choice to celebrate this fortieth anniversary of the Fête de la Musique! A total of 16 stages were scattered around the city and in the 24 bars participating in the event. Among the many meetings of the Breton capital, this June 21, several are organized by the town hall:
- Tabor Park (kiosk): pop, rap, punk and rock from 6:15 p.m. to 9:50 p.m.;
- Tabor Park (Théâtre de Verdure): pop, rock and electro from 7:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.;
- Tabor Park (Saint-Melaine cloister): songs and acoustic music from 7:10 p.m. to 10:40 p.m.;
- Parliament Square : world music and current music from 7 p.m. to 12:20 a.m.;
- Algarve Park (Blosne): folk, rock, rap and jazz from 6:30 p.m. to 10:40 p.m.;
- Place Hoche : Melting Notes Orchestra and Orchester d’Harmonie de Rennes from 7 p.m. to 9.15 p.m.;
- Place Sainte-Anne : Collectif Legal Shot (dub, roots and reggae) from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.;
- Square Hyacinthe Lorette : Summer Session (electronic music) from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.;
- Carrefour Jouaust : Elemento Records and Les Ondes Scélérates (electronic music) from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.;
- Rue des Portes Mordelaises : Toucouleurs (Brazilian music) wandering from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. then concerts from 8 p.m. to midnight;
- Esplanade Charles de Gaulle : Soundclimat, Percept, Brume and Lena collectives (electronic music) from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.;
- Parvis des Champs Libres: Fox in Dub collective (roots, reggae) from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.;
- Mail Francois Mitterand : collective Osmoz (electronic music) from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.;
And in the neighborhoods:
- The Vertugadin Terraces (Plaine de Baud): boom for children followed by various concerts from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. organized by Rennes Pôle Association;
- Place Eugene Aulnette (Beauregard): musical ensemble of the Ferme de la Harpe from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., on the initiative of the association 3 Regards;
- Remembrance Square (Sainte-Thérèse): concerts, snack bar and restaurant from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. organized by the collective of local residents.
Bordeaux will not escape the arrival of summer and with it, the Fête de la Musique! The town hall has also set up a secure perimeter in the city center, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m. Note, among the many events planned in Bordeaux:
- I.Boat : a must for Bordeaux nights, the discotheque hosts, in the city center on Place Saint-Projet, an electro evening with DJ-Sets, light and video projections.
- MADD : the collectives La sueur and O’fantasme offer a Music Festival to dancehall and reggaeton rhythms with performances and drag shows, in the company of Dj Jo Capish, la Sueur, Dj Mery Street B2B Seventbeatz and O’fantasme.
- Museum of Fine Arts: the Bordeaux choir La Voilière invites you to an evening of Music Festival with an eclectic repertoire of songs from around the world, to dance to or inspired by the ideal of freedom, echoing the Rosa Bonheur exhibition.
- Square Dom Bedos : Fancy a rock night to celebrate the longest day of the year? Meet at Square Dom Bedos with Allez Les Filles and Bordeaux Rock, which offer five concerts.
Like every year, the Fête de la Musique 2022 will take place on Tuesday, June 21. A date that was not chosen at random, since it corresponds to the summer solstice, the first day of the summer season, the end of spring, but also the longest day of the year. It’s a great way to celebrate music, the arrival of good weather and to start the summer evening season!
It was in 1981 that Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture, initiated the creation of an event putting music in the spotlight. He instructed Maurice Fleuret, director of music and dance, to create this huge popular event, which would be organized every year, on the day of the summer solstice, everywhere in France. The first Fête de la Musique took place on June 21, 1982: it was a success. Thousands of events are springing up all over the country, bringing together music lovers and artists for a gigantic popular celebration.
“We needed an event that would allow us to measure the place occupied by music in individual and collective life. A spectacular movement of awareness, a spontaneous momentum to alert public opinion and perhaps also… the political class. C This is why the Ministry of Culture had the idea of organizing a Fête de la Musique in 1982. Also, very quickly, the Fête de la Musique, which took hold of France and the French, went beyond borders: since 2017, more than 120 countries have celebrated music on the same day.
