Music and dance returns to city’s trails

A celebration of the arts and culture returns to the city’s trail system on Saturday.

Local musicians, painters and dancers will be performing at various spots along a 2.6-kilometer stretch of the SC Johnson Trail between the Hardy Road parking lot and Layfette Avenue between 10 am and 1 pm

“We are excited to take part in the nationwide Culture Days celebration with our second annual Culture Days on the Trails event,” Kara Davey, the city’s manager of tourism, culture and sport, said. “This year, 12 local painters, musicians and dancers will activate a section of the SC Johnson Trail to celebrate Brantford’s beautiful trail system and the vast array of talent in our community.”

The event features 12 mini-concerts and performances by musicians, dancers and exhibits by painters.

The rain date for the event is Sept. 22.

Participants this year include: Alicia-Lynn Morin – painter; Calm Canopy, musician; Chris Strei, musician; David A. Moses, musician; James N. Wilson, musician; Jay Patel, musician; Paromita Kar, dancer; Patti Giroux, painter; Piano Escape, musicians; RedSky Breaks, dancer; Rising Hedons, musician and Sumeda Mongia, dancer.

Parking will be available at the parking lots on Hardy Road and at the Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant. On-street parking is also available on Parkside Drive, between Dufferin Avenue and Preston Boulevard.

Altitude Coffee Roasters will be on-site with their full-service coffee shop trailer, featuring hot and cold beverages.

Culture Days is a national celebration that brings people together to recognize the importance of arts and culture in communities across Canada.

Meanwhile, more than 50 exhibiting artists will be selling their work at the Grand River Arts Festival on the grounds of the Glenhyrst Art Gallery on Saturday.

The festival is a celebration of and exhibition of visual arts, music, and theater. It also includes 16 theater performances participating in the 10-Minute Play Competition.

Other festival activities include The Grand Impressionists painting competition, Brantford Potter’s Guild sale in the Gardener’s Cottage, performance art by Big City Arts, food trucks and all-day musical performances on the main outdoor stage.

The County of Brant’s Culture Days celebration begins Sept. 20 and continues to Oct. 12 with several events planned including special events at the Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, introduction to italic calligraphy for beginners and pencil sketching.
