Murdered wife – life sentence against man in Vagnhärad confirmed

It was a January evening this year that the woman was found dead in Vagnhärad after her husband, who is in his 50s, himself had alerted the police to their shared residence. Among other things, the woman had been stabbed in the throat and the man was arrested on suspicion of murder.

In June, he was sentenced to life imprisonment by the district court, but he appealed. And now the verdict from the Svea Court of Appeal has come. They believe that it is proven that the man acted with intent.

Men’s violence against women

  • The girls’ daycare center in Luleå is overloaded – increased pressure during the summer

  • Man charged with murder of woman in Borlänge

  • The Court of Appeal believes, among other things, that the intention becomes clear when he said the night before the murder that he wanted to kill his wife. The fact that he also waited to call for help, despite the fact that the woman did not die immediately after the stabbing in the throat, makes it even clearer, the court believes.

    Previously convicted of assault

The man had previously been convicted of assaulting his wife and at the time of the murder he was about to be charged with another assault.

    – On an individual level, it is so deeply tragic and on a societal level, it is very distressing that we have not come further in overcoming this, said prosecutor Martina Valentin Lane in an earlier interview.

In connection with the murder, the district court also sentenced him for that assault. The Court of Appeal shares the district court’s assessment in that part of the case as well.
