The police were alerted at 23.56 on August 14 to a villa outside Kalix.
The 55-year-old man himself had called 112 and said that he had killed his wife in her 60s.
– She is in the bedroom. She is not breathing, he is said to have said in the SOS call.
The man then left the house, met the police and was arrested. He has since been detained on probable cause on suspicion of murder.
“Derailed”
According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the woman was stabbed to death and had several injuries on her body. The 55-year-old has admitted to the murder both in the 112 call and in the police interrogation.
There has previously been no known history of violence between the couple. When asked about the motive, the man said that he did not know but that he got angry.
– Had no insight into anything then and there.
Chamber prosecutor Kristin Andersson leads the murder investigation and says:
– I understand his questioning as if it was a fight that got off the rails or what should you say. A fight that appears to be an isolated incident and that it has culminated in this incident, the murder. He was the only one left alive at the scene who could tell about this, we’ll see if he wants to say specifically what it’s about. We are also trying to find out in the preliminary investigation by hearing witnesses.
Man: Hard to believe
The 55-year-old underwent a mental examination, a so-called P7, in September. In that doctor’s interview, the man said that he now “afterwards finds it hard to believe that what happened really happened and that he was guilty of the act”. He also stated that he “deeply regrets the act and feels sorry”.
The man was judged in the P7 not to be seriously mentally ill. The district court has now decided that he will still undergo a major forensic psychiatric examination, which will take at least a month to complete.
Charges are expected to be filed shortly, according to the prosecutor.
TV4 Nyheterna has sought the 55-year-old’s defender, lawyer Marko Tuhkanen, who does not want to leave any comments.
