Munro Vehicles is a Scotland-based company founded in 2019 and has just announced its heavy-duty Mk_1, AWD, boxy-looking SUV. It’s built to tackle almost any type of terrain and comes in two drivetrain versions.
The standard version is 295 hp, while the other is much more powerful with 375 hp. These two powertrains can be combined with a 61 kWh battery or an 82 kWh battery providing a maximum range of 306 km. Alternatively, the Mk_1 can run flat for 16 hours over rough terrain.
With 700Nm of torque being prioritized, the SUV can accelerate to just 129km/h and the Performance version can sprint from 0-100km/h in just 4.9 seconds, which is pretty impressive given the size of this thing. The truck can load up to 1 tonne or tow up to 3.5 tons.
The Mk_1 supports 100-kW DC fast charging and can charge 15-80% in 36 minutes. Using a standard 22-kW AC charger, a full charge from 15% takes three hours. Munro ensures that the battery retains 80% of its maximum capacity even after 160,000 km. (At least that’s what company officials say).
As would be expected of an all-terrain vehicle, all versions are all-wheel drive, offer a central locking differential and two-speed transfer case, and Munro offers optional front and rear locking differentials if you prefer.
As the axial flux electric motor is mounted between the two front seats, the vehicle has an almost ideal 50:50 weight distribution. The chassis is made of galvanized, 5 mm thick steel and can accommodate a Euro standard pallet at the rear.
A starting price of £49,995 for the Utility version with five doors and a 3302mm wheelbase. The interesting thing is that every Munro Mk_1 it is handmade and deliveries will begin next year.
