Mummy star Brendan Fraser boycotts awards despite being favorite

The enthusiasm for The Whale does not wane. Ever since the film premiered in Venice, Brendan Fraser has been on everyone’s lips. His outstanding performance Darren Aronofsky’s drama will certainly play a major role at some award ceremonies. However, the actor will not appear at the Golden Globes.

Regardless of whether Fraser is nominated for a Golden Globe or not: he reveals to GQ that he has already made his decision. The reason for this is a case of sexual harassmentwhich Fraser first spoke of in 2018: In 2003 he was groped by Philip Berk, then President of the HFPA.

Despite great opportunities for The Whale: Brendan Fraser justifies his Golden Globe cancellation

The Golden Globes are held annually by the HFPA – the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Fraser has talked about how many times in the past much traumatized him by Berk’s assault. There’s no way he can now attend an event organized by the association that was watching.

I’ve had more bad experiences with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than respect for them. No, I won’t [an den Golden Globes] take part … […] My mother didn’t raise me as a hypocrite.

Fraser’s pain runs deepas the HFPA failed to respond to his allegations and went ahead with the Golden Globes as if nothing happened.

The 80th edition of the well-known award ceremony will take place on January 10, 2023. Nominations will be announced on December 12, 2022. The Whale starts on April 27, 2023 in German cinemas.
