Leandro Lo restrained a man behaving threateningly in a Brazilian club, after which the man shot him in the head.
Eight-time Brazilian jujutsu world champion Leandro Lo has been declared brain dead in hospital after being shot in the head at a club in São Paulo.
According to witnesses, a man behaving threateningly approached Lo and his friends, when Lo restrained the man, by the BBC (you will switch to another service). However, the man shot Lot in the head when he let him go. The man also kicked Lot twice, even though he was already lying on the ground after the shooting.
The suspect fled the scene, but later surrendered himself to the police.
Lo was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brain dead. According to Lo’s family, his condition is irreversible, reports the BBC.
The 33-year-old Lo won the Brazilian jujutsu world championship eight times in five different weight classes. He held the all-time record for world championships in the sport.
The International Federation of Brazilian Jujutsu called him “one of the greatest athletes our sport has ever produced”.
