Multimillion-dollar support for municipalities that say yes to new wind power

One billion kroner in the budget for 2025 is proposed to go to a new investment support for the electricity system that the government calls the “power lift”, compensation to the municipalities for the expansion of wind power and to a pilot and demonstration project in the nuclear power area.

The wind power support must be designed so that the municipalities receive support corresponding to the income from the property tax on wind power. It will partly strengthen the incentives to build and approve new wind turbines, but it also includes existing wind turbines that are on land today.

In 2025, the government wants to give 340 million kroner in support to the municipalities. In 2026, that figure rises to 370 million and the following year to 400 million.

During the same period, they want to invest in nuclear power in a project they call “Nuclear Power 2.0”. In 2025, SEK 30 million will go towards strengthening the conditions for nuclear power. In 2026 the figure will be 35 million and in 2027 25 million.

The funds must also go to efforts to improve the conditions for new fossil-free electricity production.

Energy and Industry Minister Ebba Busch (KD) says the government is strengthening research and development for nuclear technology and batteries.
