“Congratulations to President-elect Muizzu,” wrote Solih on X, formerly Twitter, after the country’s electoral commission announced that Mohamed Muizzu received 54 percent of the vote.
This means that the China-friendly 45-year-old Muizzu will be the new president. He will be installed on November 17.
Neither Muizzu nor Solih received more than 50 percent of the vote in the first round of voting earlier in September.
