Moderate Youth Association chairman Douglas Thor responds to the criticism after The Authority for Youth and Civil Society Affairs decided to freeze their contributions.
According to him, the situation will be sorted out.
– I always find it difficult not being able to focus on anything other than the business, says Douglas Thor.
In March, TV4 Nyheterna revealed that the Moderate Youth Association’s chairman Douglas Thor offered to pay for new Muf members, in an attempt to win an internal power struggle. The authority for youth and civil society affairs, MUCF, has after the incident carried out an audit which shows that vote buying did not occur.
Now, however, they have decided to freeze contributions to MUF as they no longer live up to the “condition of democratic building” and are considering demanding back the state organization grant that the youth association was granted for 2023 of just over SEK 2.7 million.
Douglas Thor responds to the criticism
Douglas Thor says in an interview with TV4 Nyheterna that it is obvious that he will continue to sit as chairman of Muf.
He is also positively disposed to the situation, this after he sat in on talks with MUCF. Something that he says the youth association themselves took the initiative for.
– We have to make sure we can sort this out and had a conversation this morning and it was good. I find it very difficult to see that it will end up in anything other than that we can sort this out, says Douglas Thor.
– My feeling from having spoken with MUCF is that they also have a great interest in all the thousands of young members we have being able to continue to get involved in politics.
“Will be able to figure this out”
He further says that the MUCF did not give the MUF any specific measures to resolve the situation, but that the conversation consisted of talking about what ambiguities exist and how they can be resolved.
– We obviously want to get a recommendation for further action, says Douglas Thor.
When Douglas Thor is asked if he thinks MUCF will continue to freeze the payments, he says that it is something that he finds difficult to see after sitting in on the conversation.
– My view is that we will be able to sort this out.
The decision by the MUCF, which came on Monday, means that they are freezing the payments of state grants for the next six months. The decision applies until the investigation into Muf is fully completed, which is expected to happen in the next few weeks.
