The time slot is a peak moment for the grid operator. People come home from work, start cooking, charge the car, turn on the washing machine, and so on. “The capacity on the power grid is limited, especially at those times,” says spokesperson Koen de Lange. “Charging a car has a major impact on the power grid. Charging the car at another time frees up more space. You have to ask yourself what has priority on the grid.”
