MTR’s promise to commuters in Gnesta: New train drivers to be hired

MTR has previously aimed to return to full service this fall, but due to staff shortages it has previously been announced that it will be reduced to 90 percent. During the summer, it was even lower, which led to MTR having to pay the fine to Region Stockholm.

MTR: 96 new drivers

But now comes a promise of new employment of train drivers and full traffic from 1 November. According to MTR, 96 newly trained train drivers must be ready to be taken into service by mid-January 2024.

Large proportion of commuters

Approximately 4,500 of the municipality’s 11,600 residents commute daily to work or school. It is a fact that municipal councilor Anna Ekström (M) emphasizes in the talks with MTR, Region Stockholm and Region Sörmland.

– Everyday life should work for our citizens, you should be able to get to school and work without having to think about whether the trains are running as they should, she says.

The clip below shows when the commuters submitted a protest list to responsible politicians at the beginning of the summer.
