The supplies are stuck in a depot 200 km away, in the town of Wad Madani. And according to the operations coordinator for Sudan, Michiel Hofman, the military authorities have refused for a month to authorize the delivery of its medical supplies.
“ This is not a supply problem, but is a blockage. We have all authorizations from the Ministry of Health to operate this hospital, including emergencies and to transport supplies. On October 1, the military authorities finally told us officially that they no longer authorized the transport of these supplies to the south of Khartoum. »The authorities did not give any explanations« but this decision will have a considerable impact », Underlines the head of MSF.
“ Fighting is a daily occurrence, as are bombings, and the hospital supported by MSF was the only one still able to provide free emergency care to the population in the southern part of the capital. We have carried out an unprecedented number of surgical procedures, procedures that save lives! This will be devastating, including for the medical team who cannot do anything while equipment is less than 200 km away. »
According to the latter, nearly 5,000 patients have been received in the emergency room of this hospital since mid-May. Another private hospital, also in the south of the city, is also impacted by this blockage. And its stocks are likely to run out within two weeks.
